Hey, I’m Martha!
My path to birth work…
My path to doula work began when I was deeply involved in my sister’s pregnancy and birth journey. That experience opened up an entirely new world for me and sparked what has now become more than six years of supporting families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and loss.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of attending over 220 births and supporting families through so many different versions of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. I completed my initial doula training through MotherWit and am certified through Wise Women Way of Birth, with continued education and experience in pregnancy and infant loss, postpartum care, lactation and prenatal education. I’ve also completed a lactation-focused doula mentorship alongside a local lactation consultant and, for the past several years, have worked as a prenatal educator through both group and private sessions.
This work has continued to grow alongside me. I’m currently pursuing my education in social work, deepening the knowledge and perspective I bring to supporting individuals and families through some of life’s biggest transitions.
After many years of supporting families throughout Vancouver, I now call Bowen Island home and feel very grateful to be continuing this work within my local community.
My support style…
My support style...
I believe knowledge can be incredibly empowering. A big part of my role is making evidence-based information approachable, helping you understand your options, and supporting you in making decisions that genuinely feel right for you and your family. I’m not here to tell you what your birth should look like—I’m here to help you develop your own intentions, prepare for birth and postpartum, and feel supported however things unfold.
My personality very much comes with me into this work. You can expect open and honest conversations, warmth, non-judgemental support, and plenty of humour when the moment calls for it. I want you to feel like you can ask me anything and talk openly about the intimate, difficult, or sometimes awkward parts of pregnancy, birth, feeding, postpartum and loss. I have a particular passion for pregnancy and infant loss support and creating space for experiences that are still too often surrounded by silence or stigma.
I also offer birth, newborn and family photography with a natural, documentary approach. I love capturing the connection, small details and real moments that make these seasons what they are, giving families an honest record of moments they can come back to.
