Martha Lanphear, Birth Doula
At the beginning of 2019 I found myself fully immersed in the role of birth partner for my sister. This opened my heart to how powerful birthing people and childbirth truly is. From the moment my niece was born I knew this was the right path, supporting, advocating for and helping to empower pregnant people throughout their journey. I am also familiar with many types of communities and I am eager to provide inclusive loving care for all.
Fundamentally, this is your birth, your body, your choices. I will provide informational support to help you feel confident in making informed choices, and in trusting your body’s innate ability to birth. I’m excited to accompany you and your support team as you harness your inner power to bring your little one(s) into the world!
Let's get to know each other and see if we'll be
a good fit!
I encourage your birth partner to come along, I would love to meet them as well.
From the moment you hire me, I will be available to you for any questions or concerns you may have. I am also happy to listen if you just need to chat.
36 weeks and on I am on call for you, please keep me in the loop with any new developments throughout your pregnancy. When you feel you may be in the birthing process, let me know - I can come whenever you feel you need support.
These visits are for us to dive deeper into your emotions, expectations, hopes and fears about your pregnancy and birth. This gives us time to map your birth preferences, go over comfort measures, and figure out what is most important to you. We can decide how much time we spend together to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible when your birthing time arrives. Typically, I would like to have our first visit before 35 weeks.
I provide continuous support to you and your support team throughout your birth. I utilise physical comfort measures, encouraging words, affirmation cards, a TENS machine, Rebozo and more. I will be your biggest cheerleader and an advocate for your needs as you birth your baby! I also offer the option of birth photography.
After the birth I will stay with you for 1-2 hours to make sure you are comfortable and feel supported. This gives you time to settle in with your baby and ask me any questions. I am able to assist with chest/breast-feeding at this time if you wish. I also offer one postpartum visit that will take place within the first two weeks. This time can be used for questions, referrals for further care/support and even light house work to help you feel settled! I also love to use this time to reflect on your physical and emotional experience throughout this wild and beautiful journey.
